JOB SUMMARY: Blueshift is an innovative and rapidly growing thermal management company that has an exciting opportunity for a Coop student to be part of a multi-disciplinary team that is developing cutting-edge energy efficient thermal management solutions for the aerospace, defense and specialty electronics industries. Blueshift’s thermal protection systems are based on our core polymer aerogel film technology, which yields thin, flexible and lightweight products that are easily applied in tight spaces for use in challenging environments. As part of the Applications and Research team, the Coop student utilize their technical knowledge and practical skills to advance Blueshift’s thermal protection solutions. The student will be involved in hands-on design and development of prototypes, set-up and execution of thermal experiments, thermo-mechanical testing of materials, data analysis and preparation of project reports and presentations. The Coop student will also help the team with preparation of prototypes and material characterization using standard thermal (Fox50, TGA) and mechanical test equipment (Instron). The student will be part of a team generating solutions for real-time customer problems. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: ➢ Excellent understanding of heat transfer theory and fundamentals is highly significant. ➢ Experience with thermal and materials science laboratory. ➢ Fabricate sample prototypes based on customer requirements. ➢ Ability to plan and run thermal tests at different environmental conditions. ➢ Proficiency in writing conference papers is preferred. ➢ Minimum experience with CAD (i.e. Fusion360). ➢ Working within a team of Engineers to design and develop solutions to requirements for a given customer project. ➢ Follow all lab safety protocols including use of personal protective equipment (PPE). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: ➢ Currently enrolled in a university-level Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering, M a t e r i a l S c i e n c e s , Physics or similar disciplines. ➢ Classes/courses related to thermal engineering/management are a high requirement. ➢ Laboratory experience and basic understanding of laboratory safety required. ➢ Experience using Microsoft office excel and PowerPoint required, additional experience with project management and/or design of experiments software preferred.
