Marketing Communications Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY
The Marketing & Communications Assistant serves as a contributing member of the Marketing and Communications (MarCom) team and supports the goals and activities of the Housing and Food Services unit through collaboration with team members. Work will include conceptualizing, developing, and producing marketing and communication projects for various HFS units. This opportunity is ideal for students with an interest in marketing, writing, communications, journalism, branding, and/or business. Students will receive authentic experience in a professional environment, including direction and mentorship from the MarCom team.


RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with the development and execution of strategic communications/marketing plans. 
• Contribute to customer communications including website updates, newsletters, social media and HFS blog posts. 
• Contribute to content calendar. 
• Examine existing plans and offer feedback from a student’s point of view. 
• Participate in regular team meetings. 
• Perform related duties as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
•Current UW-Seattle student with an interest in communications, marketing, business, social media, writing and/or journalism. 
•Excellent writing, speaking and interpersonal skills. 
•Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines and exercise good judgment in a dynamic environment. 
•Ability to represent HFS professionally and to communicate comfortably with students, faculty and staff while working. 
•Ability to function independently and as a team member. 
•Flexibility and availability to work evenings/weekends as needed to capture events on campus. 
•A desire to learn, a strong passion for creativity, and a willingness to have fun! 
•Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite experience.


COLLABORATION RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will work closely with the entire Marketing & Communications team, including other student employees, and will receive direction from a unit Manager.  


POSITION COMPLEXITIES  
This position will work 0–19.5 hours per week and will work to meet project goals and subsequent deadlines. Additional duties may be assigned for special events that occur within or outside a regular work schedule.


WORKING CONDITIONS
•The work is performed in an open office setting with noise and other distractions, as well as various indoor and outdoor locations on the UW campus. 
•This position may travel on foot or by vehicle to campus locations with a camera. 
•This position does not maintain regular office hours at the outset. The work hours will be determined by consultation with the Manager to accommodate the student’s class schedule.


COMPEMSATION  
•$20.76 per hour


WORK SCHEDULE 
•Up to 19.5 hours per week 
•Fall quarter 2025 (with option to extend) 
•Flexible schedule, Mon-Fri 8:30am - 5pm
