Social Skills Coach - Disability Services
Pathways to Independence is more than a recreation-based program; we are uniquely focused on developing social, interpersonal and other soft skills in individuals with complex cognitive disabilities to help them overcome personal and professional challenges.
Pathways to Independence seeks an energetic, creative individual with good communication and organizational skills, with the ability to promote independence, community involvement, social skill enhancement, leadership skills and safety awareness for adults with complex learning disabilities, autism, and associated disorders.
Agency requests 8‐10 shifts per month, primarily on weekends and weekday evenings. This equates to approximately 4‐8 hours per week (10‐30 hours/month) depending on shift lengths.
Successful candidates will possess the following knowledge and skills to be independent with participants after a short orientation period of approximately 30 days: interpersonal, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, proficiency in service provision strategies, individual and group facilitation techniques, documentation standards and safety awareness.
MO Class E driver’s license is required upon hire or within 30 days of hire. Transporting individuals in agency vehicles for some events is required - van training provided.

Key Responsibilities
Include, but not limited to:
● Social Coaching - provide social support and group supervision to participants during learning opportunities and group training events. Promote independence, knowledge of and involvement in community resources, social skill enhancement, leadership skills, safety awareness and identifying natural supports. Act as a positive role model and facilitator.
● Ensuring the health, safety, and well‐being of program participants while involved in PTI programming and upholding the highest safety standards for employees and clients.
● Working with full time staff to plan and implement learning opportunities, programs, and classes.
● Attending staff meetings and training approximately 2-4 times per year. Communicate monthly availability in a timely manner.
● Completing documentation requirements of organization and funding agencies in a timely manner, including participant progress notes.
● Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
REQUIREMENTS:
● A Bachelor's Degree, preferably with a background in recreation, social work, human services, vocational rehabilitation, (special) education, psychology or other related social services field, or at least three years experience in the social service field, preferably working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
● Work schedule varies based on the needs of the program participants, but is primarily Monday‐Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays at various times. Other weekday times may be available.
- Hours may range from 10‐30 hours per month.
- Flexibility and willingness to fill in a plus
- Must be available to work AT LEAST 2‐4 weekend days per month. Additional weekend availability preferred.
● Completion and maintenance of Adult CPR and Standard First Aid and other training as required by agency funding sources.
● Submit to a criminal records check and driving records check.
● Energetic, creative individual with good communication and organizational skills. Knowledge of community resources and ability to use documentation systems on the computer. Ability to promote independence, community involvement, social skill enhancement, leadership skills and safety awareness for adults with disabilities.
