The EHS Director plans, directs, and implements Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance and to identify and resolve EHS deficiencies and/or issues at both sites. He/she will champion EHS continuous improvement towards the goal of achieving world-class performance. Plans and implements Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, guidelines, and standards pertinent to the location

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Integral part of the company’s operations staff with responsibility in all aspects of environmental, health, and safety initiatives at the two manufacturing sites. 
  • Build relationships with employees, supervisors, managers, and executive leadership while developing a pro-active EHS culture.
  • Plans and implements environmental programs and prepares/submits environmental reports in compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, ensuring all environmental and safety reporting is completed and submitted on time to respective agencies such as NJDEP, EPA, OSHA.
  • Conduct gap analysis to determine EHS priorities. 
  • Responsible for safety related systems in the facilities including fire protection, personal protective equipment (PPE), uniforms, first aid supplies, etc.
  • Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program for both sites
  • Identifies and suggests corrective measures to improve the site's accident experience and to implement means to achieve site EHS goals. Leads the investigation of incidents and works to determine and implement effective corrective actions to prevent reoccurrences
  • Interacts with EHS regulatory agencies during site inspections
  • Maintains EHS files and records
  • Perform other EHS duties as assigned.
  • Develop and implement a world-class comprehensive EHS management system.
  • Oversee all aspects of environmental compliance, including hazardous waste, storm water, air and wastewater, industrial hygiene, Process Safety Management, and occupational health program, emergency response, LOTO.
  • Manage and direct all aspects of safety program including training activities, safety committee management, process safety initiatives, and incident investigations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory responsibilities

  • In addition to setting goals and establishing deadlines, this position is responsible for developing, coaching, managing, and leading two direct reports.

 

Education/Experience, SKILLSET

  • Bachelor's degree in EHS related field (science, engineering).
  • 5-8 years of related experience required; 10 or more years of experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience with industrial hygiene, worker's compensation, accident investigations and regulatory compliance and reporting.
  • An articulate communicator and trainer who possesses excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong Team focus.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to interface cross-functionally.
  • Ability to stay organized, prioritize & follow-through.
  • Ability to stay focused in a fast-paced environment.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside, in all types of weather. Wear protective or safety equipment such as a respirator as needed
  • Walking throughout the facility and between departments, using stairs
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
