JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the Direction of the Director and supervision of the Assistant Director, Division of Animal Health, in the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, performs tasks for the diagnosis and control of contagious and infectious diseases of livestock and poultry; investigate alleged cases of animal cruelty; conducts and arranges for the conduct of diagnostic tests; administers laws and regulations regarding animal disease control, quarantines and the interstate and intrastate movement of livestock; performs surveys, examinations, diagnostic work and other related activities of livestock disease control and eradication within an assigned area of the state; may plan, organize, and perform animal cruelty investigations and disease outbreak investigations; prepares reports of case investigations; documents legal cases as appropriate for admission in court, acts as a witness in the prosecution of alleged law violations; conducts educational and outreach programs e.g., makes public speeches, develops presentations for professional meetings and stakeholder education, prepares work-related reports/studies in professional journals etc.; provides assistance to agents of livestock, poultry and other allied agricultural industries, private veterinarians, county extension agents, vocational agriculture teachers/students, state and federal regulators, and other stakeholders; performs other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
VETERINARIAN 1
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited College of Veterinary Medicine approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) with a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, or completion of the training program administered by the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) of the (AVMA), or the Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence (PAVE) of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB), or achievement of diplomat status in any (AVMA) specialty board.
OR
VETERINARIAN 2
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience in the field of animal disease control or laboratory diagnostic work. SPECIAL NOTE: Residency training is not required, but experience performing necropsies on a variety of animal species preferred.

LICENSE: Candidate must possess a passing grade, as determined by the test sponsor, on the National Board Exam and the Clinical Competency test or equivalent test, or passage of the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), or the Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence (PAVE) of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB), or achievement of diplomat status in any (AVMA) specialty board. The Appointing Authority is responsible for verification.
Candidates will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States according to the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship, and Immigration Services regulations.
