Biology Lab Assistant

The Biology Lab Assistant position provides paraprofessional lab assistance to Biology instructors and students to ensure all laboratory needs are met on time and safe and efficient laboratory environment is maintained. This position plays a key role in achieving the outcomes of the college strategic plan and master academic plan.

 

Example of Biology lab duties include:

Coordinate with biology staff & faculty to prepare, set up & break down student  labs, including preparation and distribution of materials; set up and trouble-shoot equipment.

Coordinate with biology staff to establish and maintain highly organized biology laboratories and preparation areas, materials and equipment.  

Prepare, culture and maintain media for lab experiments, autoclave materials, create chemical solutions.

Assist in the ordering of all laboratory supplies and equipment for the biology department using Workday to ensure adequate supplies and materials are available for all biology laboratory exercises.   

Determine, schedule, and evaluate student worker assignments.

Support community garden activities.

Care for live animals and plants, and maintain cultures

 

Salary Range:

 $20.89 - $28.78 / hour; $43,618 - $60,092 / year

 

Minimum Qualifications (Must be reflected on resume/application)

Post-Secondary coursework in Biology sufficient to provide technical lab services for students, faculty, and staff;

OR

Six (6) months of teaching/tutoring experience in Biology at the high school level or above;

OR

An equivalent combination of education and work experience

 

Preferred Qualification 

Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field.

Experience in preparing labs

Ability to maintain lab equipment.

Ability to determine accuracy requirements in a laboratory experiment.

Ability to safely create media and solutions,  good general knowledge of biology theory.

Proficiency with computers.

Desire and interest to work with community college students.

Experience working with students with learning disabilities, students of color, non-traditional students, and under-prepared students.

 

Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)

Monday - Friday; 

Afternoon/Evening Shift; Work hours depend on class schedules for the semester

Some Fall 2025 semester shifts may end as late as 9:00 PM
