Speech-Language Pathologist

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. The SLP provides therapy services that help students develop effective communication skills necessary for academic success and social interaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess and identify students with speech, language, and communication disorders through screenings, evaluations, and observations.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans (IEPs) based on assessment results and student needs.
  • Provide direct therapy services to students individually or in small groups.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other support staff to integrate speech and language goals into classroom activities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including progress reports, therapy logs, and compliance records.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to eligibility, goal setting, and progress monitoring discussions.
  • Consult with teachers and staff to support language development and effective communication in the classroom.
  • Provide training and resources to staff and families to support carryover of communication skills.
  • Stay current with professional practices, research, and continuing education related to speech-language pathology.
  • Ensure all services are compliant with federal, state, and district regulations.

Education: Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Certification/Licensure:

Current Florida license or certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist.

DOE certification (for school-based positions) as required by state regulations.

Experience: Prior experience in a school or pediatric setting preferred.
