Academic Tutor (School Partnerships)
JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking support in the following locations:
Bronzeville Classical Elementary School

Esmond Elementary School
1865 W Montvale Ave, Chicago, IL 60643
Duties include facilitating age-appropriate lesson plans for students with different abilities, as well as teaching social skills through guided activities and assessing each student's academic progress. All candidates should have access to a computer and a stable Wi-Fi connection should programming need to be delivered virtually. In addition to core responsibilities of delivering weekly lesson plans in accordance with CTC curriculum, other responsibilities may include tracking attendance, serving snacks provided by schools, escorting students up and down flights of stairs and around school grounds In addition to core responsibilities of delivering weekly or biweekly lesson plans in accordance with CTC curriculum.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Tutors work with individuals or small groups of students to improve academic performance, especially in reading and math. They provide academic coaching and tutoring, complete assessments, follow CTC proprietary teaching methodologies, implement lesson plans, and support teachers in the classrooms..
In practice this might look like using edu-tech games, music, edu-films, books, software applications, or other learning tools to teach basic educational and social skills.
CTC tutors should be able to:
- Academic support in small groups students (alongside other tutors and/or Site Director) in a given class-ensuring safety, care, of all children at all times.
- Teach reading math and grammar skills to K-8 students
- Facilitate and deliver a defined learning program and weekly/biweekly lesson plans in accordance with CTC's and partner school's curriculum.
- Maintain records of grades or performance for students and discuss progress with the site leader.
- Monitor and observe children's interactions in peer activities
- Work closely with administration, staff, and other tutors.
- Check and respond to emails daily and regularly consult with your Site Director.
- Collaborate with staff and partners to determine student needs and develop tutoring plans.
- Keep record of student attendance, learning plans, their activities, and progress.
- Distribute snacks and other materials as necessary during transitional times as well as engage students during these moments.
- Provide support and encouragement help students build confidence, motivation and self awareness to nurture growth mindset
- Enhance self-esteem and confidence in students by practicing patience.
- Model excitement about learning.
- Lead students in cleanup as needed including sanitizing classroom equipment.
- Participate in weekly observation and feedback sessions with your Site Director for professional development and growth.
- Possess the mindsets, cultural proficiencies, and skills to build effective, caring relationships with students in the online setting.
- Navigate varying technology, (such as Ipads and Smartboards) and troubleshoot minor technical issues as they arise.
Physical demands of this work include:
- The ability to climb stairs and ramps occasionally during shifts, often while escorting children
- Standing, sitting, squatting, bending, twisting, walking, and moving at a fast pace
- Able to lift 30lbs
QUALIFICATIONS:
For this position, we are seeking individuals who are engaging, reliable, consistent, respectful and patient while working with children.
Relevant degree or coursework in subject math, reading, ELA areas or previous tutoring or teaching experience
Teaching certification or education credentials
Experience working with children in K-12 educational settings
Training in learning disabilities or special needs
Candidates must be able to multitask and show initiative.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must complete and pass background check
- Reliable transportation - Driver's Lcense
- Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional manner
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Fluency in spoken Spanish (not required but a plus)
- Proficiency in online learning tools and eagerness to learn new platforms (Zoom, Google Workspace,Canva,Slack).
- Computer literate with skills in MS Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Access to technology such as a laptop or desktop computer with camera capability, working audio as well as a stable Wi-Fi connection.
PHONE POLICY: Staff members are required to refrain from using personal phones/technology for non-work-related purposes during working hours. Staff should remain focused and dedicated to their responsibilities and deliver optimal productivity. By adhering to this policy, we can maintain a high level of commitment to our tasks and provide excellent service to our clients or customers.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS: Must successfully pass all background screenings and consent to fingerprinting. Saga Education high impact tutor certified preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE: Anticipated hours for morning shift is 8am to 12pm and afterschool are 2pm to 6pm and may involve multiple work locations as well as some remote teaching.
COMPENSATION: PAY RANGE: Competitive pay based on your experience and qualifications.
