School Counselor
The Ursuline School is a private, independent, Catholic, college-preparatory school for girls in grades 6–12, located in New Rochelle, New York, just 20 miles north of Manhattan in a diverse suburban community. The Ursuline School seeks a dynamic School Counselor to support students in grades 6–12. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success working collaboratively with students, families, and educators in a school environment.This role requires a compassionate and professional individual who can build strong relationships across the community and promote social-emotional wellness, personal growth, and academic success for all students.
Anticipated Start Date: November 10, 2025 (or as soon as practicable thereafter)
Position: Full-Time School Counselor
Level: Middle and High School (Grades 6 - 12)
Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000 annually commensurate with experience and qualifications
Responsibilities:
- Provide social, emotional, and psychological support to students in grades 6–12 using evidence-based methodologies.
- Consult with faculty, staff, and parents/guardians regarding individual student needs and progress.
- Deliver crisis counseling and refer students and families to specialized care when appropriate.
- Coordinate and collaborate with outside professionals to ensure continuity of student support.
- Maintain accurate, confidential student records and meet established reporting deadlines.
- Actively participate in student events, wellness programs, and school workshops.
- Serve as an advisor or facilitate at least one club or extracurricular activity.
- Uphold legal, ethical, and professional standards of school counseling practice.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in social work, mental health counseling, or a related field, with appropriate New York State licensure (required).
- Thorough understanding of child and adolescent development, mental health disorders, learning differences, and social-emotional learning/character education.
- Minimum of three (3) or more years of clinical experience working with diverse middle- and high-school populations (preferred).
- Demonstrated proficiency in crisis management and risk assessment with children and adolescents.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural competency in counseling practice.
- Ability to demonstrate empathy, compassion, discretion, and professionalism consistently.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. - Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing needs.
- Effective facilitation skills for both small and large groups.
