Dental Billing Specialist
Position Overview
The Dental Biller is responsible for monitoring patient accounts, collecting and posting payments from insurance companies and providing information to patients and front desk team members, as needed.
Multitasking with a friendly and positive attitude is required for all Front Desk Reception Team members at UPDDA.
Essential Job Functions
- Researches and resolves unpaid balances on patient accounts. This includes calling insurance companies, researching via on-line insurance sites, and contacting patient families
- Promptly and accurately addresses insurance provider correspondence to ensure UPD is paid in a timely manner
- Posts and applies payments/adjustments. Balances deposits, as needed
- Answers incoming telephone inquiries from both outside and internal customers
- Sorts and distributes incoming mail
- Assists Billing Manager with other duties, as needed
- Understands and follows HIPAA regulations
- Attends all required in-services, seminars and staff meetings
- Other duties as required or requested to meet patient needs and emergencies
- Other duties as required or requested by management
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED
- For remote work, must have designated private work area (out of high traffic areas) and high speed reliable internet
- Must be able to work independently without constant supervision
Preferred Qualifications
- Dental or medical office experience preferred
- Strong dental billing experience

- Commitment to providing excellent customer service in support of pediatric-centered quality dental care
- Exceptional communication skills including verbal, written and listening
- Ability to work under pressure and to handle patient concerns/complaints
- Attention to detail, ability to complete work with minimal error and within assigned timeframes
- Knowledge of modern office practices (email, fax, scan internet, etc), procedures and basic dental terminology
- Basic computer skills in order to use electronic dental record and practice management software programs. Proficient in MS Office
