Urban Ministry Intern
Spend a summer learning about loving God and serving your neighbors on the margins.
- Live in a community focused on helping our neighbors flourish
- Learn about community development in a neighborhood context
- Live out God's heart for healing and hope in places of trauma and brokenness
What is an intern?
Our interns are college aged guys and girls who are pursuing the Lord and
are seeking to learn more about urban ministry by spending their summer pouring themselves out and being poured into at One Hope Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Serving at One Hope for the summer also includes being involved at Springs of Grace Bible Church, our founding church and closest ministry partner.
What is One Hope Tulsa?
One Hope Tulsa cultivates safe spaces and relationships for neighborhood flourishing through leadership development, kids, youth, and family programming, and neighborhood care.
Our approach is trauma-responsive, local church-based, and focused on neighbors on the margins in Northeast Tulsa.
Why should I do urban ministry in Northeast Tulsa?
Northeast Tulsa is an overlooked area of the city. The neighborhood has high poverty rates, especially for children, and is under-resourced. Our neighborhood is also a key area for outreach to the unhoused and other vulnerable people. Come join what God is doing to bring hope in our neighborhood!
Where will I live?
Interns live in our neighborhood either with host families or in One Hope
intern housing. Interns get the privilege of living and working in a racially diverse
neighborhood.
What will I do as an intern?
Interns have two primary activities:
- Staffing One Hope programs and events, and
- Learning alongside and connecting with the intern cohort.
Interns should approach this opportunity as a mission trip, having an all-in mindset.
- Interns will staff a variety of kids, teen, and vulnerable neighbor programs, events, and ministries. This includes the whole range of work (planning and preparation, inviting neighbors, running programs, and cleaning up). Programs and events are lead by One Hope Staff experienced in their areas of ministry.
- When not staffing programs, interns will explore the heart and how of urban ministry
among the poor, engage in spiritual formation, and build friendships and group camaraderie.
Will I get time to rest?
Yes, while the internship is an all-in experience, rest is included as part of the summer schedule. Interns will generally have one day off a week and there are intentional activities built into weekly routines to help interns to process their experiences and persevere in their work.
I’m interested, what else do I need to know?
- Pay: Interns are paid a small stipend and have all housing costs and most meal costs covered.
