2026 Legislative Intern

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Working closely with the Community Organizer and an existing event plan, the Legislative Intern will help the OutNebraska team execute the 2026 OutNebraska Legislative Day event. In addition, the intern will help to execute ongoing advocacy communications to supporters and advocates. This position will primarily be remote, but availability to work with the team during business hours is essential. Travel to Lincoln for pre-event tasks and the event may be required.

Primary Responsibilities

Using an existing plan, execute and support 2026 Legislative Day activities to help community members access the Nebraska Legislature

Regularly update content on OutNebraska website including bill tracker page

Write copy with guidance for the email newsletter and occasional update emails

Create and schedule social media content as directed

Candidate Profile

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Well-rounded interpersonal, relational skills

Detail-oriented work practices

Ability to collaborate on team efforts

Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines

College sophomore (2nd year) or above preferred

Learning opportunities

Gain experience with advocacy event planning, including working with a CRM platform

Gain experience with the legislative process at the state level

Gain experience with community organizing and communication strategies 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is part-time, temporary November 2025 - May 2026, as relevant to the legislative session, with an expectation of 10-15 hours per week.

Compensation will be paid $600/monthly stipend not to exceed $3,600. There are no benefits available for this position.
