Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • At least 2 years of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) experience
  • At least 2 years of experience implementing security controls around IT Infrastructure and data
  • Experience with vulnerability assessment, security event analysis, security technology (firewall, antivirus, web security, data loss prevention) administration
  • Experience with formulating remediation strategies with incident response team
  • Experience researching and evaluating new and updated technologies
  • Experience with applying cybersecurity and privacy principles to organizational requirements (relevant to confidentiality, integrity, authentication)
  • Security certification related to cyber defense, incident response, penetration testing, or security management
  • Knowledge of Application Security Risks
  • Knowledge of network security architecture concepts
  • Knowledge of cyber threats and vulnerabilities
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

Hybrid Telework Opportunity

Under direction, incumbent works under the direction Information Technology Supervisor II, Security Operations Group (SOG). The Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) works as part of the SOG maintaining the configuration, administration, and monitoring of the SOG’s security systems and tools. Identifies and dissects highly targeted attacks and other suspicious activity using a variety of network-based tools. Provides accurate and rapid reporting of in-depth technical analysis results in written form. Research potential exploitation methods. Identifies and analyzes network security appliance logs. Provides mitigation suggestions in the context of a security incidents, as it relates to the technical analysis of PHISHING, Malware, Anti-Virus, or other artifacts. The ITS I works in the Information Security Engineering domain.

Working Conditions

HCAI offers a hybrid telework schedule with a combination of remote and in-office work schedules for CA residents only. The telework policy is subject to change, and additional in-office days may be required and/or minimal notification may be given to report to the worksite if an urgent need arises.

Telework schedules: The expectation is that all staff will work in office 4 days a week July 1, 2026.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST I

When using education to meet the general experience requirements listed in the minimum qualifications, education must include the specified information technology or closely related course work. Closely related course work refers to a course of study involving the study of computing, such as software engineering, computer engineering, Management Information Systems, Geographic Information System, and computing technology.

Two years as an Information Technology Associate; or

Four years of general information technology experience performing technical and/or analytical tasks for computer systems or services in any of the six domains or emerging information technology fields; or

120 semester units (or 180 quarter units) from an accredited college or university including at least 15 semester units (or 22.5 quarter units) of information technology or closely related course work; or

Any equivalent combination of experience and education.

When using education to meet minimum qualifications, education must include the specified IT or closely related course work.
