We are seeking a talented and motivated Research Associate in Organic Chemistry to join our expanding team. In this role, you will report to and work closely with a Scientist from our Chemistry department, contributing to the synthesis, purification and tracking of target molecules. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in synthetic organic chemistry and a passion for advancing drug discovery initiatives.
What You'll Do:
- Synthesize, purify, and characterize synthetic intermediates and final compounds on milligram-to-multigram scale using a wide range of synthetic methodologies
- Analyze results, generate reports, and communicate findings to the Chemistry Team regularly
- Collaborate with the Chemistry Team to develop new synthetic approaches and methodologies
- Maintain accurate and up to date electronic notebook documentation of laboratory activities
- Independently operate and oversee maintenance of selected lab equipment
- Be an active contributor to the efforts of our Chemistry Team, including opportunities to contribute to compound designs
About You:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline
- Minimum 1-4 years hands-on experience synthesizing organic compounds in an industry setting
- Knowledgeable in organic synthesis techniques and conversant with current literature
- Must have experience with common laboratory equipment (LC-MS, Flash Chromatography systems, HPLC, etc.)
- High level of creativity, knowledge of reaction mechanisms, able to adapt synthetic problem-solving approaches to a variety of target compounds
- Self-motivated and independent with the ability to work under minimum supervision
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Must be able to manage competing priorities
- Adept at following written protocols and verbal instructions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates excellent note-taking skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, ChemDraw, and MestReNova (or equivalent)
- Strong interest and experience working in a team setting
- Must be able and willing to work at lab bench/fume hood for the majority of the workday
- Must be able to lift/reach/manipulate laboratory equipment independently
- Ability to work fully onsite in South San Francisco location, Monday – Friday
