Part-Time Worship Leader 

Summary

 The Worship Leader will have primary responsibilities in directing Alexandria Community Church (ACC) ministries related to music in our worship services. The Worship Leader will take the lead in worship band practice and decision-making, schedule volunteer musicians, coordinate music with the Pastor and other staff that helps accentuate the themes being preached, send out music/chords ahead of time for practice and specials, look for opportunities to involve new people in the work of worship, and graciously navigate any conflict situations that might arise. The Worship Leader will work under the guidance and direction of the Senior Pastor, and will be accountable to the Senior Pastor and the Human Relations Committee (HRC).

 Responsibilities

 • Lead band practice (currently at 8:30 AM on Sunday) and the worship service on Sunday mornings (10:30 AM) 

• Pick out songs that go well with the sermon topic being preached, can coordinate with the Pastor and the rest of the worship band/committee

 • Strive mostly to pick out songs that the congregation knows well concerning the overall mix of songs, knowing that the congregation is your most significant “instrument” in facilitating the worship of Christ 

• Email music/chords to the volunteer worship team and tech crew ahead of time

 • Schedule volunteer musicians ahead of time or develop a rotation as necessary

 • Good relational fit with volunteers and rest of the church

 • Strive to develop the band and volunteer musicians, helping them grow in their skills, confidence, and overall facilitation of worship

 • Be positive, low-stress, encouraging, and edifying person; don’t be overly critical as you relate to the worship team and the congregation

 • Lead with confidence and authenticity 

• Find your own replacement when you’re going to be absent on a Sunday 

• Be available for special services around Christmas season, Lent, Holy Week/Easter season, and any other special times of worship as planned by the Worship Committee and Pastor

 • Participate in other events in the life of the church when possible and be knit into the relationships of the church community

 • Participate in meetings of the Worship Committee for worship planning purposes

 • Participate in staff meetings as possible 

• Maintain the music equipment, materials, and supplies; inform relevant persons of any needs concerning music and worship equipment 

• Assist and provide feedback concerning the worship budget at the church 

• Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Senior Pastor

 Compensation and Benefits

 • Salary: This is a salaried position, with salary at $10,400 a year ($200 a week). Some weeks may be busier, like Christmas/Holy Week, and others may be lighter. Salary changes to be recommended by Human Relations Committee, with approval of the Administrative Council.

 • Vacation: In light of this position being mostly focused on Sundays, you start with two paid Sundays off (should not be Christmas or Holy Week season). After two years of service, you can have three paid Sundays off. After four years of service, you can have four paid Sundays off. Please give advance notice of vacation plans.

 • Sick Days: Per ACC’s policy manual, as much advance notice as possible should be given to your supervisors (Senior Pastor and the HRC chairperson) and to any volunteers/teams who will be affected by your absence. Failure to provide sufficient advance notice may result in loss of compensation for the time off and/or disciplinary action. Regular part-time employees shall be entitled to three sick days with pay per year, and sick days may not be carried over from one year to the next.

 • Other Time Off: Other situations in which time off might be requested (jury duty, death in the family, parental leave for childbirth or adoption, a leave of absence, etc.) may be worked out with the Senior Pastor and HRC, in consultation with ACC’s policy manual.

 • Development: Support for attending trainings, conferences, and other educational opportunities will be considered by Senior Pastor and HRC Chairperson upon request.

 

 Other Expectations

 • Ability to Commute/Relocate: Can reliably commute; must possess a valid, legal Driver’s License; living in the nearby Northern Kentucky area a major plus 

• Work Location: In person

 • Background Check: You must undergo a background check as part of the interview and hiring process at ACC 

• Child Safety Policy Training: You will undergo training in our Safe Sanctuary child protection policy 

• Tryout: You will undergo a tryout during Sunday morning worship to help the church assess your skill and fit as a worship leader

 • Reports To: Senior Pastor and Human Resource Committee Chairperson 

• Probationary Period and Review: This position will be evaluated at least annually by the Senior Pastor and HRC. New employees will be hired on a 90 day probation period. Employer or employee may terminate employment at any time during this probation period.

  Character, Skills, and Qualifications 

Have a Christlike manner and demonstrate high biblical standards in your life, including: 

• A vibrant, personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord 

• Spending regular time in prayer and personal devotion

 • Evidence of the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) in your life 

• Be in agreement with ACC’s doctrinal statement 

• A humble, teachable spirit

 • Faithfulness in your lifestyle and in all your relationships, including:

 • Be celibate in singleness (not sleeping with a boyfriend/girlfriend outside of marriage or participating in casual sex) 

• Be faithful in marriage (not cheating on or abusive to spouse)

 • If you experience same-sex attraction, choose not to pursue a romantic samesex relationship

 • Identify as your biological sex; refrain from cross-dressing 

• Sufficient ability with guitar and/or piano/keys to play well in a worship band

 • Sufficient singing ability to lead others well in worship 

• High school graduate or above 

• Have good communication skills

 • Use social media wisely, knowing that you are a paid employee and representative of the church–your statements affect people’s views of Jesus and the church

 • Refrain from substance abuse, addiction, and illegal drug use

 • Ability to be part of a team and work with volunteers

 • Maturity in interpersonal relationships and in handling conflict

 • Ability to maintain confidentiality
