Food Process & Operations Coordinator

Food Production Supervisor— Part-Time (30 hrs/week)

Location: 1670 SE 3rd Ave. Portland, OR (on-site)
Pay: $33-35/hour DOE
Schedule: ~30 hours/week. Production “sprints” Wed/Thu; prep/admin on Tue.

About Savorease

We produce high-dissolving, texture-engineered solid supplements for medical nutrition (dysphagia care). We operate a small-batch, standards-driven production environment with active product development.

30-Day Objective

Establish a reliable, documented, and scalable production rhythm that operates independently of the founder: clear procedures, disciplined cadence, bilingual coverage, and predictable weekly output.

Responsibilities (hands-on)

  • Write & run SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for batching, dehydration parameters, sanitation, traceability, and hold/release.
  • Install a 10-minute daily huddle, a visible production board, and a weekly KPI (Key Performance Indicator) email covering throughput, First-Pass Yield, scrap, On-Time/In-Full, and units per batch.
  • Recruit, staff, and train a 2–3 person bench of production techs (ensure bilingual coverage each sprint).
  • Lead two production sprints each week (Wed/Thu); handle Tue staging/purchasing/inventory/QA logs. Be prepared to work the line (including piping) in short rotations while you train and document standard work.
  • Draft a one-page depositor requirements list (accuracy, cleanability, changeover time, footprint/utilities) to guide vendor selection.
  • Send a concise weekly KPI email and maintain visible metrics.

Qualifications

  • 2–5+ years in food manufacturing (dehydration or baking/co-pack preferred).
  • Demonstrated numeric improvements (e.g., scrap ↓, throughput ↑, COGS ↓) on a small-batch line.
  • Proven experience writing SOPs, running daily huddles, and operating with a KPI board.
  • Comfortable working the line while developing people and process.

Nice to have

  • Experience with bench-top depositors or specifying equipment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or experience leading bilingual crews.

What we offer

  • Clear 30-day outcomes and authority to schedule on-call techs for sprint days.
  • Paid half-day work sample.
  • Defined path to full-time Lead Ops with performance bonus as sales grow.

How to apply

Email rbarewal@savorease.com with subject “Ops Lead (Part-Time) – [Your Name]” and include in your cover letter:  Andrew – you might not need to put my email in Indeed.

  1. Two numeric wins you delivered on a small-batch food line (e.g., “Scrap ↓18%,” “Throughput ↑35%”).
  2. 1-page SOP or batch record you personally wrote (sanitized is fine).
  3. Answer two (3–5 sentences each):
    • A fast, practical fix you shipped in under two weeks—what you tried, what failed, what stuck, and the numeric result.
    • A time production nearly derailed 30 minutes before a run—how you stabilized people and process.
    • The three metrics you’d post on our production board next Wednesday and why.
