
Nursery Attendant
The Nursery Attendant is a part-time employee of Boise First Congregational United Church of Christ who is supervised by the Pastor and the Children’s Ministry Team. Two Nursery Attendants work together each week to monitor the play and safety of the children in their care and oversee the physical nursery space. They provide a nurturing and engaging environment for children in the nursery, including facilitating developmentally appropriate interactions and play, helping children practice good hygiene, and encouraging them to wear masks when needed. Nursery Attendants must be able to change the diapers of infants and toddlers.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be CPR certified (including infant and toddler CPR).
- Have experience, training, and references related to childcare work with infants, toddlers, and preschool children.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the developmental needs of infants, toddlers, and preschool children.
- Must pass a background check (provided by Boise First) and participate in safe space training (provided by Boise First).
Specific Weekly Tasks

General Expectations:
- Work collaboratively with the other Nursery Attendant in providing care for children and infants in the nursery and managing the nursery space.

Administrative/Organizational Tasks:
- Must arrive in the nursery by 9:45 and remain untilat least 11:15 on Sunday mornings. Occasional unpaid Sundays off may be arranged in advance with a Youth Education and Ministry Team Liaison.
- Oversee sign in and sign out process for each child each Sunday.
- Ask parents who are using the nursery for the first time to complete a registration form.
- Log hours attending the nursery each week on time sheets provided and turn them in monthly for payment.
- If no children are in the nursery by 10:15, ask to return to the sanctuary for worship, clean/sanitize and organize the room, or join a Sunday School class if needed.

Interactions with Children:
- Be continuously aware of interactions among children and assist them to interact cooperatively. Encourage positive interactions, i.e. sharing and taking turns. Help children find a new play activity when negative interactions emerge.
- Report to parents about the day’s behaviors you observe through use of a parent log upon sign out. If problem behaviors develop that might need to be reported to parents, ask a CE Board Liaison to be present when problem behaviors need to be discussed with parents.
- Report any harmful incidents or difficulties to the Youth Education and Ministry liaison and/or the Pastor on the same day they occur. Fill out an incident report if injury or unacceptable behaviors occur.
- In the unlikely event of an emergency, respond with care and fill out an incident report after the situation has resolved.

Cleaning/Organizing Nursery Space:
- Be responsible for keeping the room and materials in a clean and orderly condition.
- Toys need to be put away when children leave. Best practice is to have children help as they are able in putting things away.
- Toys that are played with by toddlers and infants need to be set aside and sanitized at the end of the play session and returned to use the next week.
- Clean surfaces as needed where children have played.
