Hesperos, Inc., a leader among preclinical biotechnology testing companies, is seeking a creative and skilled Rapid Prototyping and Fabrication Associate for a hands-on role turning innovative designs into tangible components for our groundbreaking Human-on-a-Chip® systems. You will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and refining our fabrication processes to produce high-quality prototypes and custom parts. The successful candidate will be responsible for translating designs into physical components using a variety of tools and software, collaborating with engineering and scientific teams to transform innovative concepts into functional prototypes and custom parts for use with Hesperos’ Human-on-a-Chip® microphysiological systems (MPS).
Reporting to the Lead Engineer, this role is part of the larger Engineering and Automation team, led by the Director of Engineering and Automation. The successful candidate will work as an individual contributor, collaborating across disciplines. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional technical and problem-solving skills, have a solid understanding of digital fabrication techniques, and be comfortable in a dynamic, agile working environment.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Operating and maintaining fabrication tools, including laser cutters, CNC routers, and 3D printers, ensuring timely and quality outputs.
- Translating concepts and designs into tangible designs and parts using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, LightBurn) and digital illustration tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Generating G-code from designs using CAM software and execute jobs on CNC machinery.
- Working closely with engineering and scientific teams to develop new techniques, fabricate prototypes, and improve existing components.
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues with fabrication equipment and processes to ensure minimal downtime.
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics to produce accurate components.
- Adhering to all laboratory safety guidelines and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Applicant must have the following qualifications:
- 1-3 years’ experience in digital fabrication, CNC machining, or 3D printing.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a design or engineering-related field.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, LightBurn).
- Hands-on experience with digital fabrication tools such as laser cutters, CNC routers, and 3D printers.
- Strong knowledge of CAM software and G-code generation.
- A solid understanding of material properties for fabrication applications (primarily plastics and soft goods).
- Strong problem-solving, time management, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high standard for precision.
- Well-honed verbal, written, and listening communication skills for effective teamwork.
- Ability to lift and handle materials up to 50 lbs.
- A strong commitment to following safety procedures.
Ideally, the applicant will also have the following qualifications:
- Proficiency in digital illustration tools, including but not limited to Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and BioRender.
- Experience in a fast-paced technology, biotech, or scientific organization.
