Excavation Superintendent
Jamestown Excavating is seeking a skilled and motivated Superintendent to lead on-site coordination for all phases of residential, commercial, heavy civil, and site development excavation projects. This crucial role ensures the timely and compliant completion of each project, adhering to plans, specifications, and local codes, while maintaining stringent quality control and job-site safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise all employees, subcontractors, consultants, and vendors on a daily basis.
Lead weekly safety meetings and ensure compliance with OSHA, CPR/First Aid, and equipment training certifications.
Manage customer relationships by addressing concerns, providing timely updates, and ensuring commitments are met.
Develop and maintain project schedules to drive on-time project delivery.
Implement and enforce quality control measures throughout the project lifecycle.
Facilitate communication within the project team regarding ASIs, RFIs, and material submittals.
Ensure employees and subcontractors adhere to the contracted scope of work.
Coordinate inspections with local authorities and ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
Identify conflicts or challenges early and work with the project team on resolutions.
Maintain detailed daily logs of job site activities.
Manage Superintendent responsibilities across multiple job sites concurrently.
Conduct regular walk-throughs to monitor progress and anticipate future project needs.
Issue corrective notices for non-compliance in work quality, scheduling, or safety.
Assist in budgeting, bidding, and subcontractor management.
Support the permitting process and maintain accurate material submittal records.
Lead pre-construction meetings with customers, employees, and subcontractors.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of five (5) years of verifiable experience in excavation projects.
Proven experience in heavy civil and site development projects.
Comprehensive knowledge of construction trades with extensive excavation expertise.
Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage teams and clients.
Ability to travel to assigned job sites.
Valid Driver’s License.
Successful completion of a criminal background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven ability to direct and resolve issues for an excavation crew of 10+ individuals and manage 10+ subcontractors and vendors on a project.
Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to empower, coach, and influence team members towards achieving common goals.
Strong customer service orientation with the ability to promptly address and resolve customer inquiries and feedback.
Proficiency in understanding and interpreting blueprints.
Demonstrated awareness of project timelines and cost budgeting.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suites.
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts, including algebra and geometry.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks.
Effective time management, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
