General Description:

Main task is operation of Raith 5000/5200 electron beam pattern generators and Heidelberg VPG high resolution laserwriter optical lithography system. Computer programming using the Linux operating system and Bash/Python scripting.  Work includes prototyping, process engineering, and optimizing lithography processes.

Essential Duties:

Primary job function is efficient operation of top of the line electron beam lithography and photolithography direct write tools, coat and develop clusters, chemical bench-tops and spinners.  Secondary tasks assist in programming and operating electron beam lithography systems using the Linux operating system and Bash/Python scripting.  Fracture incoming pattern data into machine specific formats, applying data and Proximity Error Corrections (PEC) as necessary. Operate electron beam lithography systems and monitor running jobs locally and remotely. Hands-on wafer processing including coating, loading, and inspection (using optical microscopes and scanning electron microscopes). 

Write and perform experiments in collaboration with lead technical staff, record and analyze lithography results and statistical data.  Work closely with research staff and present results, options and recommendations to HRL main technical management and customers. Work closely with team members to write customized job files developing novel processes requiring utmost accuracy and attention to detail for critical fabrication processes.  Provide timely communication and collaboration updates to customers regarding work submitted. 

Required Skills:

Experience and skills in computer programming.  Bash scripting is strongly desired. Experience with Python is a plus. Experience with photolithography tools including coat/develop tracks, sub-micron steppers, direct write lithography, image reverse, and inspection tools including SEM and/or CD-SEM is also a plus. Demonstrate problem solving ability under critical deadlines, and the ability to adapt to changing project needs. Candidates should possess a proven track record of developing novel and successful solutions to complex technical issues.

Required Education:

Preferred Bachelors program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or related field and lab/cleanroom experience.

Must be enrolled in an educational program the following the intern assignment to be considered. 

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work within a cleanroom environment wearing personal protective equipment to include lab coveralls, chemical apron, hood, facemask, hairnets, safety gloves and goggles.  Walking and/or standing may be required for 70-80% of the day.  Must possess motor skills appropriate to the task.  Must be able to lift/push/pull 25-30 pounds consistently.

Assignment Length: HRL Summer internship assignments typically span 8 to 12 weeks, with three available cohort start dates: May 25, June 1 and June 15.

Stipend: For students who will be relocating and renting in the Malibu, CA area for the summer we offer a 1 time stipend to help with moving costs. Specific information on pay out and requirements to be discussed with your recruiter. 

Compensation:

The pay range for this position is $30 - $35 per hour. The pay will be determined on your educational year. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires for the position. Your recruiter can share more about the specific range during the hiring process.
