JOB SUMMARY

The Electronics Technician position is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting a wide range of security, communication, and electronic systems. This role offers recent graduates the opportunity to develop technical expertise, work with advanced equipment, and contribute directly to mission-critical operations.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires some strenuous and physical exertion such as climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds, and crouching or crawling in small work areas.

MAJOR DUTIES 

As an Electronics Technician you will:

GS 7:

  • Receive on-the-job training to perform technical work in various areas of specialization and functional areas, including but not limited to electronics surveillance, data network, emerging forensic video, image, audio, wireless, networking, electronic security, microwave etc.
  • Design basic approaches to resolve technical problems with conventional equipment.
  • Participate actively in repairing equipment and taking corrective maintenance in the assigned programmatic area. 
  • Routinely inspect and test equipment/systems to ensure that technical integrity is maintained and if necessary, proposes appropriate corrective action. 

GS 9: (In addition to above)

  • Install and maintain Bureau’s complex communications/network and intrusion detection systems and associated wide/narrow band wireless communication equipment and forensic audio and video equipment and techniques.
  • Assist in establishing secure communication systems at a command center at crisis site to promptly provide immediate connectivity to FBIHQ, appropriate field offices, and/or other law enforcement and government agencies.
  • Routinely inspect and test equipment/systems to ensure technical integrity. Assist in conducting site surveys for installation of equipment.
  • Ensure operational and standby systems and equipment are available and are in continuous reliable operating conditions for normal daily functions and emergencies.
  • Troubleshoot, install, and maintain complex network, communications and security electronic systems.

Positive Education Requirement 
This position has a specific education requirement; all applicants must verify completion of this basic educational requirement by submitting a copy of their college transcripts by the closing date 

Candidates must have received or will be receiving an undergraduate, graduate, or PhD degree between May 2024 and June 2026 with a GPA no less than 2.95 on a 4.0 scale at the time of graduation. Veterans have up to six years after graduating or completing their degree to apply (May 2020-June 2026).  

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.

Education 

All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

GS-7: Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one (1) full year of graduate level education.  Superior academic achievement is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average of 2.95 or higher as recorded on an official transcript, or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3) honor society membership.

GS-9: Applicant must have a master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
