Leadership Next Gen Fellowship

Leadership Next Gen Paid Fellowship

Coalition for Anti-Racism and Equity (CARE) and Commonwealth Seminar

January to June 2026

Deadline to apply is Oct 18, 2025

The Leadership Next Gen Fellowship is a collaborative initiative by the Coalition for Anti-Racism and Equity (CARE) and Commonwealth Seminar. It is designed for high school and college students (referred to as fellows) hailing from underrepresented communities. The program aims to equip them with essential civic leadership skills, fostering community engagement and offering hands-on experience in the offices of elected officials. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and currently enrolled in an accredited institution in Massachusetts.

The program will involve the placement of these fellows as interns in a range of government offices at the local, state, and federal levels. These experiences will be complemented by placements in diverse community-based organizations (CBOs). This combination will offer fellows exposure, skills, and valuable networks that they can integrate to become more effective leaders and advocates for their communities.

Furthermore, each fellow will be enrolled in the Commonwealth Seminar's civic leadership training. This will provide them with essential legislative training, valuable networking opportunities with influential policymakers, and access to the Seminar's extensive alumni network of over 1,500 members.

The program includes mandatory bi-weekly check-ins with CARE program staff/mentor throughout the program. Fellows will be awarded a $2,500 stipend on completion of the program.
