Summer Intern - Investment Management

This internship is within the group responsible for investment management oversight of the product lineup of Hartford Funds.  The position will provide exposure to performance measurement and assessment, asset allocation, product lifecycle and competitive positioning disciplines for both Mutual Funds and ETFs.

 

The ideal candidate should have the desire to learn about the investment management industry, specifically Mutual Funds & ETFs through the lens of data and data analytics. 

 

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Perform data analysis using industry aggregator tools such as Morningstar and Lipper to create reports and visualizations to facilitate research and analysis of performance, portfolio characteristics, and peers.
  • Assist in the development of business operational improvements through a keen understanding of quality control & quality assurance.
  • Use understanding of product measures and technical insights to work with team on further developing our Data Warehouse with additional data feeds and improvements through Snowflake.
  • Leverage Snowflake to develop strategies for business solutions.
  • Work with team on further development of SharePoint site which serves as a reference library and content catalog for internal end-users. 
  • Participate in and observe department meetings around due diligence, research topics and data analytics.
  • Ad hoc projects as provided by the Capital Markets team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Preferably enrolled in college as a Business/Finance/Economics/Math major or Computer/Data Science
  • Proficiency in Excel required; ability to acquire skills prior to start of internship may be considered.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage time efficiently and work independently with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving skills and ability to think both from a business and technology standpoint. Attention to detail is a must.
  • Experience with SQL-based databases (Snowflake is a plus).
  • Python and/or R
