Marketing and Membership Intern

As a Marketing and Membership Intern at BHYC, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You'll have the opportunity to develop real-world skills in content creation, social media management, photography, videography, and marketing strategy. Working alongside experienced professionals, you’ll contribute to meaningful projects that directly impact member engagement and Club growth. You’ll also build a diverse portfolio of work, from social media campaigns to event promotions, while honing your communication, organizational, and creative problem-solving skills. Whether you're looking to expand your expertise in marketing, hospitality, or membership services, this internship provides valuable exposure to both digital marketing and private club operations, setting the stage for future career success. This is a full-time internship expected to last from May-August with possible part time opportunities based on performance and availability. 

Bay Harbor Yacht Club, a private club located near Petoskey, MI, provides breathtaking views and exceptional service for both guests and members year-round. Job Duties:

  • Assist in creating, editing, and publishing content on various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Engage with the online member community by responding to comments and requests on social channels in a timely manner.
  • Support the creation of scripts, shot lists, and creative vision for video edits and photo shoots.
  • Assist with capturing photos and videos at key social events for use in marketing materials.
  • Help produce short video clips (30-90 seconds), which may need same-day editing and posting.
  • Ensure that all marketing efforts adhere to the Club’s branding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other departments to promote all aspects of the Club.
  • Assist in the development of presentations, communications, timelines, and project updates related to content creation.
  • Contribute to new ideas and creative projects that attract potential members.
  • Support the creation of sales packets and assist with other membership services as needed.
  • Occasionally assist with Member Services, including phone support and guest/member inquiries.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in graphic arts, communications, digital marketing, or a related field. And/or 6+ months of comparable experience
  • Hospitality and or private club experience preferred, but not required

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies, and Expectations:

  • Basic experience or coursework in photography and videography is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance and supervision.
  • Enthusiasm for social clubs, hospitality, or lifestyle marketing.
  • Eagerness to learn new skills and adapt to a dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic knowledge of social analytics.
  • Experience with design tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a desire to develop unique and engaging content.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Willingness to contribute to a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, with temperature fluctuations ranging from 100°F to 32°F, and possible exposure to loud noise and outdoor elements.
  • The regular schedule is 40 hours per week. Holidays and weekend availability is required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs as needed, with occasional sitting, standing and walking for extended periods (4+ hours).
