Job Description and Duties

The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation is recruiting for one, Permanent, Full-time Senior Financial Institutions Examiner position within the Division of Financial Institutions, Credit Union Unit. This position is to be located in the Los Angeles office. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of these positions within the next 180 days.

Under general direction of the Financial Institutions Manager (FIM), the Senior Financial Institutions Examiner (SFIE) is responsible for conducting examinations of the largest and most complex state-chartered credit unions (licensees) subject to the California Credit Union Law for the Office of Credit Unions within the Division of Corporations and Financial Institutions. The SFIE performs at the expert level of the series. Assignments are challenging and complex requiring well-developed analytical skills and there is greater accountability and responsibility for decisions and actions. The SFIE assists in the training of new examiners, coordinates the work of examiners assigned to an examination, and reviews and edits workpapers and report comments of other examiners.

Effective July 1, 2025, The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each full-time employee shall receive a reduction in pay in exchange for PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the reduction in pay. SEIU Bargaining unit 1 will receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 per month.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: One year of experience in California state service performing the duties of a class at a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a Financial Institutions Examiner, Range C. Or

Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in professional auditing or examination of financial institutions, business firms, or services. (Experience in California state service applied toward this requirement must include two years performing the duties of a class at a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a Financial Institutions Examiner, Range C.) and

Education: Equivalent to graduation from college with a specialization in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, or a related business/management specialization.
