Preschool Ministry Cook

Description: Do you love early childhood, watching children grow in their own development, and helping connect them to faith?  Consider becoming the next preschool ministry cook at Nampa First UMC. Our Kid's Stuff Ministry, which is owned and operated by the church, is a place where faith and learning come together. Unlike the "preschool down the road," our children learn immersed in a loving and graceful environment where Jesus comes first. Children get to help with mission and service projects and participate in Family Worship Sunday mornings. As the cook, you'll work with children each day by shopping for groceries, maintaining a budget, preparing meals, coaching volunteers at times, and serving kids. You may also serve as a teacher in the classroom at times. There is also some clean-up work involved in serving 60+ children each day.

Best candidate: We are looking for a staff member who has both experience with food preparation and experience working with young children. We can coach you throught he cooking pieces, but experience with kids is a must. It is helpful if you have experience cooking for larger groups, and especially children. It's also helpful if you are working toward a CDA or other related degree in education or ministry. You should have a proven track record of supporting and nurturing children that may (at times) lose their temper, not follow directions, or all the things children do. Postive, education supported, and uplifting forms of redirection and behavior management are expected. Observation of child food allergies and keeping children safe is highly important.

Position details: We have a part-time position open. These are hourly, non-exempt positions with a pay between $14 and $16 per hour (based on skill set). We do not currently offer retirement or health benefits but you can receive childcare in our preschool ministry at a substantially discounted rate as a part-timer after your intial probationary period (usually about 6 months).
