Donor Relations Manager

Job Summary:

The Donor Relations Manager is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with donors to ensure continued financial support for Youth Services System, Inc. This employee will develop strategies and cultivate relationships to build and maintain positive, long-term connections with its donors; fostering loyalty, increase engagement and revenue, and creating a community of supporters. This employee will assist the Director of Development and Public Relations with projects such as the annual report, annual appeals, and more.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with senior level Administrative staff, develop donor goals and strategies to increase financial donations.
  • Develop and execute strategies to engage prospective donors including personalized communication, events, and presentations
  • Research and identify individuals and corporations with potential interest in supporting our mission. 
  • Continually exercise creativity in engaging and recognizing donors.
  • Initiate and build relationships with potential major donors and planned giving prospects
  • Ability to work in Bloomerang donor database, analyze trends and generate reports to inform future strategies.
  • Craft narratives and reports showcasing the impact of donor contributions and optimize donor relation efforts. 
  • Plans and executes donor specific appreciation events and other initiatives
  • Responsible for keeping donors up-to-date on how their contributions are making a difference; providing opportunities for donor feedback.
  • Develop and implement media strategies for donor engagement
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle
  • Collaborates with the Director of Development and Public Relations on the production of the annual report and other fundraising literature or appeals and designs the layout of these documents.
  • Attend professional development activities that broaden knowledge and perspective to increase major donors and planned giving. 
  • Collects and distributes stories from across the agency to support communication efforts and convey the impact of YSS’s work.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Development, may draft specific press releases and coordinates press conferences and other public appearances for agency staff. 
  • Assists with photography and videography.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate either straightforward or complex topics to diverse audiences on a variety of platforms in clear and compelling language.
  • Strong experience in public speaking.
  • Strong working knowledge of and experience with social media platforms.
  • Highly detail-oriented.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Persistent, thoughtful and ethical
  • Proven marketing skills and the ability to craft a good “sell”.
  • Demonstrated success in securing major and planned gifts.
  • Above average knowledge of financial and estate planning, charitable giving tax laws,
  • Data-informed decision-making mindset
  • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong technological/computer skills. Must be comfortable working with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to be a team player and work with diverse populations.

Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.

Required Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in donor relations, fundraising, or a similar role within a nonprofit organization.
- Proven track record of managing donor relationships and securing funding.
- Experience in creating and implementing donor engagement strategies.
- Familiarity with donor management software and fundraising databases.

Required Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire donors.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and donor management software.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and generate reports to inform fundraising strategies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
