Ungulate Field Technician - Wyoming
This project seeks to understand if highway right-of-way mitigation strategies, such as roadside mowing, brush removal, and modified fencing, are effective in reducing ungulate-vehicle collisions or ungulate use of right of ways. For this position, a technician will drive pre-determined stretches of highway in the morning and evening and document any ungulates seen either within the right of way or in close proximity (within 50m) and also document ungulate road-kills. Data entry and servicing and/or retrieving trail cameras will also be required. A field truck and housing are provided (motels/hotels) while in Wyoming. This position is in partnership with the Boone and Crockett Wildlife Conservation Program at the University of Montana and the Wyoming Department of Transportation.
The start date is mid/late October and work will be completed by mid-December 2025. Specific survey schedules are flexible and will take 3 to4 40-hour weeks. The study sites are throughout Wyoming, with the bulk of the work in NE Wyoming.
