Direct Support Professional
Job Title: Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Location: Services provided in the client's home or community settings. The client’s home is in New Port, Minnesota (about a 10-minute drive from downtown St Paul).
Compensation: $18.00 – $22.00 per hour, depending on experience and education.
Schedule: 20-40 hours per week. Primarily on weekends
Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and dedicated caregiver to provide Individualized Home Supports (IHS), Homemaking, and PCA/CFSS services to an individual with disabilities in their home or community setting. The ideal candidate will support clients in achieving greater independence, health, and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist individuals with developing skills related to independent living, such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, social skills, and community access.
- Support individuals with goal setting and skill-building based on their person-centered plans.
- Provide supervision, queueing, and guidance in a home or community environment.
- Help implement positive behavior supports and safety strategies as needed.
- Perform general household tasks such as light cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, and grocery shopping.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment to support the individual’s health and well-being.
- Respect personal preferences and cultural practices when completing tasks.
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, mobility, toileting, and eating.
- Support instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) such as medication reminders, meal prep, and household management.
- Document daily services, changes in condition, and communicate concerns to supervising staff or family.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or vulnerable adults is strongly preferred.
- Ability to complete the required training (including PCA/CFSS Worker Training, and 245D Orientation Training).
- Pass a background check per Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) guidelines.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Reliable transportation may be required depending on the service location.
