Household dynamic:

  • This close-knit, outdoor-loving family of three is looking for a nanny for their joyful, affectionate, and energetic seven-year-old son. He has been diagnosed as autistic and is mostly nonverbal, communicating through a mix of attempted speech, AAC, hand-leading, and gesturing. He is highly capable, curious, and eager to learn once he feels safe and comfortable. He craves movement and loves spending time outdoors, as well as engaging in sports and music. Currently, he attends a public school’s special education program and receives push-in support for speech and ABA therapy. This will change once the nanny joins the family. The family hopes to find a candidate who can support and integrate learning into his daily routines, foster his independence, and create enriching experiences that promote his growth.
  • This laid-back family enjoys being outside and enjoys outdoor activities, and is hoping to find someone who enjoys the outdoors as much as they do. They love traveling throughout the year, and are working with a ‌consultant to help with many aspects of his curriculum.

Ideal candidate:

  • This position is ideal for an empathetic, outdoorsy, and nurturing nanny who can genuinely connect with an active, high-energy child! The family seeks someone who brings a warm, easy-going, and playful approach to their childcare to act as his “buddy” throughout day-to-day routines. Someone adaptable, creative, patient, and able to foster regulation, independence, and joy while encouraging their child to discover his hobbies and special interests that make him feel happy, healthy, and confident will be key for this role, whether that’s fishing, sports, or something new. He thrives in a non-traditional, experiential, outdoor learning environment and would highly value someone with a background as a camp counselor or experience in outdoor education who can create a safe, enriching space to encourage him to explore and expand his curiosity over time.
  • Candidates who love the outdoors and enjoy weaving learning and care into everyday moments will feel right at home in this role! Experience supporting autistic or non-verbal children or working within the special needs community will be a wonderful fit. The family is eager to work with a candidate who is collaborative and excited to bring meaningful and steady support for years to come.
  • Responsibilities include creating an environment for the child to grow and thrive, child-related household tasks, including but not limited to meal prep, tidying, organizing children’s areas, occasional errands, executing his day-to-day routine, coordinating activities, collaborating with parents and therapists, as well as traveling with the family throughout the year.

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of professional childcare experience
  • Experience with children with special needs / working within the special needs community
  • Teaching and/or teaching assistant experience
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and keep up with a fast-paced 7-year-old
