What we are looking for:
We are looking for an Engineering Intern/Co-Op to take an active role in Hillphoenix’s ongoing engineering efforts focused on developing new product designs, supporting existing product designs, and removing unnecessary material or labor costs where possible.
What you’ll be responsible for in this role:
Leading at least one (1) engineering project and supporting other projects as needed. Engineering projects are generally multifaceted and typically involve most or all of the following engineering aspects:
- Supporting Hillphoenix’s commitment to using and promoting natural refrigerants through converting existing designs to using low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant systems
- Using 3D modeling software (Solidworks) to create new part and subsystem designs, verifying design accuracy, adherence to design standards, and meeting design requirements
- Developing new tools, features, or designs to improve manufacturability or meet customer needs
- Leading cross-functional discussions to transform customer requirements and design specifications into actionable test plan to ensure quality, performance, and reliability
- Managing project schedules, ensuring evaluation testing is completed on time, using mechanical, thermodynamic, heat transfer, and fluids engineering concepts to optimize the design and minimize test time
- Working with lab personnel to execute product test plan, including modifying or reworking prototype designs to meet performance requirements
- Using Microsoft Office products to properly analyze and document project findings (Excel for data analysis, Word for test plans and engineering documents, PowerPoint for project update presentations)
- Project details are subject to change based on business needs
What are the basic qualifications?
- Enrolled in a four-year engineering degree program
To be a great fit for the role:
- Basic knowledge of engineering math/physics and subject areas such as structural mechanics, properties of materials, and thermodynamics.
- Some exposure to CAD is beneficial but the specific software platform is not important.
- Ability with mechanical and power tools is required.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude is desirable.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited information exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public
