Food Safety Management Intern
Food City Interns work on meaningful projects spanning all solutions and services throughout the company. Created for upcoming Junior and Senior college students, our full-time (40 hours/week), 12-week programs are designed to provide hands-on experience within your area of interest. Description: We are looking for a driven and detail-oriented intern to support our Food Safety Management team while also contributing to digital development projects. This hybrid role is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in both food safety and technology. The intern will assist in monitoring food safety practices, supporting compliance efforts, and helping maintain documentation and reporting systems. Responsibilities include participating in audits, reviewing sanitation procedures, and supporting training initiatives. In parallel, the intern will work with our development team to improve digital tools used for safety tracking and reporting. Tasks may involve assisting with database updates, testing mobile apps, and helping design user-friendly dashboards. A basic understanding of programming (e.g., Python, JavaScript, or SQL) is preferred. This internship offers hands-on experience in both regulatory compliance and tech-driven process improvement, providing a unique opportunity to explore how digital tools can enhance food safety operations. Candidates should be organized, proactive, and eager to learn in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. In addition, interns are assigned a project and expected to complete a final presentation summarizing their work and share their insights with company leaders at the conclusion of the internship
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop original materials for training frontline store associates in the principles of handling food safely to prevent the spread of foodborne disease.
- Ensure all work follows company values and guidelines.
- Work with the Food Safety Manager to instruct Food Protection Manager Courses.
- Work with the Food Safety Manager to conduct follow up meetings and calls for issues identified during health inspections and occasionally food safety audits.
- Work with the Food Safety Manager to conduct in-store follow up visits and meetings, as necessary.
Program Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a college or university as a Junior or Senior, majoring in a relevant field of study.
- Recently graduated with an undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA, cumulative.
- Interest in working in a food safety role in a retail or restaurant environment.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Applications such as Outlook, word, Excel, and other programs of similar scope.
- Have strong communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
- Ability to preserve confidentiality of company information.
- Ability to work with own initiative, and desire to participate in and learn from the program’s experience.
Not Required, but Encouraged:
- Previous experience in a professional work environment
- Participation in leadership roles
- Community involvement and volunteerism
