University Administrative Assistant
Come help us grow our REI team while serving as an Administrative Assistant at Samarkand International University of Technology (SIUT) or at another local university, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. (We currently serve at SIUT, but we may also be expanding our service to Zarmed University and possibly Samarkand State University.) Serve in an administrative capacity, helping to meet the needs of various professors, department heads or deans. There are seven departments at SIUT, and you could offer support in any one (or more) of them. This role offers exposure to international higher education without a direct teaching component. Learn Uzbek and rudiments of Russian, the primary languages of your host nation, to broaden your social mobility and relational influence. Live out and share your faith among local and international students and faculty from unreached peoples across Central Asia. Embed yourself as an ambassador for the Kingdom of God and an apprentice of Jesus Christ along with us.
SIUT’s mission is to train highly qualified world-class engineering and business personnel to build the host nation, Uzbekistan, and the region of Central Asia. You will join our team of highly educated professionals with combined decades of international experience in academia, education and development work. This opportunity provides a blend of international quality academic service in your field, integrated with serious mentoring and training biblically and cross-culturally for a life of holistic, Kingdom-building service among the unreached. You’ll be mentored in Kingdom work in a predominantly Muslim context. You’ll be guided in your personal and spiritual contribution and professional contribution, growing in your knowledge, skills and character as part of our seasoned team.
Additionally, each year you will participate in planning and mentoring American college students through a 4-week summer internship program. This includes showing them around town, sharing your experience on the field, teaching them about the language and culture and assisting in a debrief at the end of their program. You will play a critical role in helping these students find where God is calling them after college.
In the future SIUT hopes to move to a newly built campus, currently under construction. This would allow for further development of the university in several ways, including through the expansion of student clubs. Some previously existing clubs include men’s basketball and soccer, nature, conversation, movie, reading and the recent establishment of a women’s committee focused on improving the college experience for female students and faculty. If you are passionate about a particular topic, subject or interest, you may be able to pioneer the development of a new club in addition to your administrative responsibilities.
