Role Overview
The Operations Engineering Manager will be the on-site leader responsible for overseeing production, coordinating across departments, and driving operational excellence. This individual will manage production flow, lead supervisors, and ensure product quality and on-time delivery in a custom, small-business manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
● Manage all areas of manufacturing from preproduction review through production execution.
● Lead and support supervisors to ensure production schedules are met, quality standards are maintained, and cost objectives are achieved.
● Drive continuous improvement initiatives, resource planning, and operational strategies to reduce lead times and costs.
● Establish and monitor key performance metrics for production, quality, and efficiency.
● Ensure ISO/AS9100 compliance, audit readiness, and adherence to defense standards.
● Collaborate with engineering, purchasing, and sales to align operations with business goals.
● Serve as the bridge between NJ headquarters and Michigan production, acting as the go-to problem solver.
● Support customer interactions and occasionally join sales/customer calls.
● Mentor and train employees, balancing a culture of accountability with collaboration.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations, or related field preferred.
● 5+ years’ leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably defense or contract manufacturing.
● Strong technical knowledge of electrical and mechanical assemblies.
● Familiarity with CAD tools, defense/military specifications, and ISO/AS9100 standards.
● Proven ability to lead long-tenured teams, manage resistance to change, and foster a process-oriented culture.
● Strong organizational and leadership skills with excellent communication.
● Leaders comfortable wearing many hats in a small-business culture.
