Recreation and Facility Management Intern

Position Summary: 
The Recreation & Facility Management Intern will gain hands-on experience in the operation of a municipal parks and recreation department. This internship provides exposure to sports league management, concessions operations, park maintenance, and community programming. The intern will work closely with staff, coaches, umpires, and the public to support safe, enjoyable, and well-maintained recreation programs and facilities.

Reports To: Parks & Recreation Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the management of concessions, including inventory, restocking, and supporting part-time concession staff.
  • Help maintain records for youth and adult leagues, including schedules, standings, and results.
  • Attend and monitor nightly little league and softball games to support staff, coaches, and umpires.
  • Assist with training sessions for coaches and umpires.
  • Observe and provide feedback on league officials to ensure program quality.
  • Collaborate with park crew to learn about and assist with facility management, including field preparation and maintenance.
  • Support daily park operations, such as restroom cleaning, lawn mowing, painting, landscaping, and brush chipping.
  • Assist with special projects, events, and cross-departmental tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a Parks & Recreation, Sports Management, or related program (preferred).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as required by league and event schedules.
  • Comfortable performing both office tasks and outdoor physical work.

Position Details:

  • Employment Type: Full-time, seasonal internship (40 hours/week).
  • Compensation: $15.00 per hour.
  • Duration: Mid-May through late July/early August (approximately 12–14 weeks).
