JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under general direction, supervises skilled technical and professional work in the design, development and maintenance of Geographic Information System (GIS) graphics and mapping applications.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in GIS, Computer Science or related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the design and development of GIS systems and applications.
- Requires fingerprinting and successful passing of an FDLE background screening.
Requires a valid Florida driver license. - Works in an office environment, with some travel to other locations. Requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and the extensive use of computers, voice and electronic communications systems.
- Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Coordinates with City departments and external agencies regarding collection, development, access and dissemination of GIS information.
- Works closely with end users to identify GIS requirements, and develop GIS solutions to fulfill business needs. Performs research and analysis, and oversees the design and development of GIS solutions. Utilizes GIS techniques to extract insights and prepare and update maps and data sets. Drives and implements GIS standards and best practices. Serves as lead system administrator for the City’s Geographic Information Systems.
- Analyzes, troubleshoots and resolves GIS-related problems and end-user issues, and provides guidance to users on methods for correcting reported problems. Researches and coordinates the purchase of GIS products and maintains software licenses.
- Supervises, trains, assigns work and addresses all personnel issues for assigned staff. Sets goals for employee performance and organizes workflow. Remains current on the principles, practices and new developments in the GIS field, and acts as a thought-leader to drive GIS adoption. Serves as a member of a high-performing, cross-functional work team and assists with or assumes responsibilities as needed in all other areas of the Information Technology Department.
