Part- Time Bio-Innovation Hub Intern (Summer 2026)

Kyowa Kirin is a fast-growing global specialty pharmaceutical company that applies state-of-the-art biotechnologies to discover and deliver novel medicines in four disease areas: bone and mineral; intractable hematologic; hematology oncology; and rare disease.  A Japan-based company, our goal is to translate science into smiles by delivering therapies where no adequate treatments currently exist, working from drug discovery to product development and commercialization. About the Role:

Bio-Innovation Hub is dedicated to Kyowa Kirin’s cell and gene therapy pipeline programs in the fields of hematology and rare diseases. Our mission is to contribute to delivering innovative pipeline projects through internal efforts as well as by leveraging external opportunities in collaboration with multiple departments.

This internship offers hands-on experience in cell and gene therapy research, including in vitro experiments using mammalian tissues and cells, data analysis, and, possibly, live animal handling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a variety of experiments focused on target and drug candidate validation under supervision, involving handling of human and mouse tissues, mammalian cell culture, and live mice.
  • Support assay development and identify potential issues or concerns to streamline processes under supervision.
  • Conduct data analysis using computer technology and applications, and/or perform statistical analysis.
  • Discuss findings with supervisors or team members to evaluate the validity of results and plan the next experiment in a timely manner.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in chemistry, biology, biotechnology or related scientific field
  • Previous internship or project experience in biomedical research or drug development in cell/gene therapy or antibody drug conjugates or familiarity with related technologies.
  • Candidates are required to live within a commutable distance of La Jolla, CA.
  • Interns are required to be able to work from May 26th, 2026 to August 13th, 2026
  • This position requires a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • The ability to work a hybrid schedule is required
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.

The anticipated hourly rate for this position will be $21.00 to $23.00 per hour.  The actual hourly rate offered for this role at commencement of employment may vary based on several factors including but not limited to relevant experience, skill set, qualifications, education (including applicable licenses and certifications, job-based knowledge, location, and other business and organizational needs.
