Office of the Chief Cybersecurity Officer Intern

The New York City Office of New York State Governor Kathy Hochul is seeking an energetic Cyber Security Office Intern for the Fall/Winter 2025 term. Interns should have some prior knowledge with Cybersecurity policy. Interns will have the opportunity to hone research and writing skills, strengthen communication skills, participate in event coordination and preparation, improve networking skills, and apply skills to address real-world issues.

The Chief Cyber Officer serves as the Governor's principal cyber advisor, centralizing the State's management of cybersecurity activities and leading cross-agency efforts to protect New Yorkers from increasingly prevalent and sophisticated cyber threats. Interns in the Office of the Chief Cyber Officer are responsible for a variety of tasks supporting policy development and team operations, including:

  • Conducting research and analysis to support policy development and key initiatives in the portfolio of the Chief Cyber Officer in collaboration with other members of the Executive Chamber. 
  • Drafting position papers, policy memos, and correspondence for the Chief Cyber Officer and Deputy Chief Cyber Officers. 
  • Preparing draft briefing materials, legislative proposals, speeches, and other materials in support of the Chief Cyber Officer and Deputy Chief Cyber Offers. 
  • Providing support for meetings, including preparation of pre-brief materials, meeting minutes, and follow ups. 

Please note, this is not a technical internship and competitive candidates will have strong writing skills and a demonstrated interest in public policy related to cybersecurity or technology.

Interns must be full-time students with a graduation date no sooner than May 2026. Interns will be expected to work 15-20 hours per week and must be available to work in-person in New York City , NY. Start and end dates are flexible. The position is paid however, in lieu, interns can receive college credit.
