Pittsburgh City Planning Vacant Land Program VISTA

Gain valuable nonprofit operations experience while making a difference as an AmeriCorps VISTA serving with the Pittsburgh Department of City Planning.   

The Department of City Planning (DCP) is looking for a motivated VISTA volunteer to join our team and help elevate our vacant land stewardship programs. Interest in public art is a plus! This position is a fantastic opportunity for individuals passionate about urban planning and community development to make a significant impact on how vacant lands are managed and utilized in our city. 

The Department of City Planning (DCP) in Pittsburgh is dedicated to shaping the city’s future through innovative and sustainable planning practices. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for residents by developing and implementing comprehensive plans that promote equitable growth, vibrant communities, and resilient infrastructure. We focus on revitalizing underutilized spaces, improving land use, and fostering community engagement to create economic opportunities and improve living conditions across the city. Through collaboration with local stakeholders, the DCP leads initiatives that drive strategic development and ensure Pittsburgh remains a dynamic, inclusive, and thriving urban environment. The program has been successful in advancing the careers of VISTA members, who are given opportunities for professional development through classes, conferences, etc.
