2026 - Supplier Quality Intern

Job Description

Work Arrangement:  

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is required to report to Warren Technical Center three times per week, at minimum. Depending on rotational opportunities, an employee may be required to work on-site full-time. 

 

Each successful candidate will be offered a hybrid role at a specific location. Candidate location preferences are considered but cannot be guaranteed. 


Supplier Quality Intern

This exciting internship opportunity offers a chance to join a dynamic Supplier Quality team that plays a critical role in ensuring both customer satisfaction and supplier excellence. As a Supplier Quality Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience in GM’s quality and supplier processes, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. This is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact while learning from industry professionals in a fast-paced, automotive environment. We are offering two types of internship positions; Supplier Quality Engineer and Supplier Quality Launch Engineer.
 

Supplier Quality Engineer Intern

  • As a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) Intern, you will be the technical liaison between GM purchasing, product engineering, manufacturing, and our supply base. You will also work with the suppliers to resolve supplier manufacturing and quality issues, implement and monitor advanced quality planning systems, and provide technical support throughout the lifecycle of a particular commodity, including warranty. Role responsibilities include:
  • Assure supplier understanding and compliance with APQP processes and product Pre-Production Approval Process (PPAP) submission and approval requirements per GM standards
  • Review and approve supplier quality plans (Control Plans, PFMEA) for new components and assemblies for new vehicles
  • Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems
  • Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions of supplier quality issues
  • Perform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions of supplier quality issues
  • Implement and monitor supplier part qualification and certification processes (PPAP, Run at Rate)
  • Improve quality performance of suppliers by conducting onsite workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a robust quality system, or other technical support as required
     

Supplier Quality Launch Engineer Intern

  • As Supplier Quality Launch Engineer Intern, you will be responsible for robustly executing the Global Supplier Quality Launch process to ensure suppliers meet all launch metrics and support a successful launch. You are the key interface to ensure engagement of key stakeholders throughout the program launch and work collaboratively with your global peers and cross-functional partners to identify and mitigate risks associated with supplier launch readiness.  Role responsibilities include:
  • Support GM Flawless Launch objectives and integrate learnings within the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP)
  • Identify, escalate, and track Launch Risks through Program Launch Alerts to enable rapid response and effective risk mitigation
  • Actively support plant launch events and other critical product launch milestones such as Initial Vehicle Evaluation (IVER), Pre-Production Validation (PPV), Manufacturing Validation Builds (MVBs), and Start of Regular Production (SORP)
  • Establish and document a clear feedback and resolution loop with suppliers and internal teams to ensure all parts are built to design intent and quality standards
  • Prepare and communicate program readiness status through weekly/bi-weekly Global Launch Reports and Build Issue Summaries to leadership and cross-functional teams
  • Collaborate with cross-functional groups (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Suppliers) to ensure timely issue resolution and continuous improvement in launch quality execution

Required Qualifications:   

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials/Metallurgical Engineering, Quality Engineering/Management
  • Must be graduating between August 2026 and June 2028 
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week 
  • Able to work in Warren, MI
     

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications): 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Basic knowledge of quality systems, manufacturing processes, or engineering fundamentals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); exposure to data analysis tools a plus
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Quality Engineering tools
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, GD&T, or materials science concepts
  • Prior internship, co-op, or project experience in manufacturing or automotive industries
