Transportation Engineer I Materials and Geotechnical
Nature of Work: Transportation Engineer 1's in this track will be performing engineering duties in support of project development, highway infrastructure, asset management, construction projects and condition assessments. In a learning capacity, the position may conduct any of materials certification reviews, materials QA/QC testing/evaluation in the laboratory as well as in the field, utilization of materials test results in pavement/geotechnical design, performing hands-on forensic evaluations of structures, preparing inspection reports and making repair recommendations under the direction of an experienced engineer, depending on which division they join. TE 1 should be able to communicate with contractors, engineers, and OMT personnel as needed to get the job done in a clear and efficient manner. This position should be able to review, understand and explain the project documents, specifications, and drawings to the contractors in an effective manner. TE 1 should be able to attend the pre-construction and progressive meetings and act as a liaison between District, OMT, and contractors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in biological engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, geological engineering, materials engineering, metallurgy engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, or welding engineering from an accredited college or university.
Experience: None required.
Note: Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.
