Lead Content Creator & Storyteller

Maxwell Social is hiring a Lead Content Creator & Storyteller to plan, produce, and publish photography, video, and written content across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, our website, newsletter, and Substack. You will translate the Maxwell vision into short-form and long-form content that builds brand, drives memberships, and books events.
 

Role basics

Location: On-site in Tribeca, NYC

Schedule: Full time. Some evenings and weekends during events

Reports to: COO/CEO. Partners with Events, Membership, and Partnerships

What you will do

  • Content leadership
  • Own the multi-channel content calendar across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, website, newsletter, and Substack
  • Concept and develop series. Write scripts and treatments. Direct videographers and photographers
  • Supervise photoshoots for social, site, and campaigns
  • Create Reels and short videos about Maxwell history, concept, people, and spaces
  • Lead an interview series for the hospitality blog and longer features
  • Run the LinkedIn content strategy for recruiting, partnerships, and thought leadership
  • Write, schedule, and QC all newsletters to 20,000+ subscribers
  • Manage and edit the Maxwell Substack, Cafe Society, including op-eds and essays
  • Onboard and supervise freelance photographers and creators
  • Growth and performance
  • Design content that converts to memberships and event bookings
  • Test hooks, thumbnails, captions, CTAs, and landing pages
  • Track results by channel and shift resources to formats that perform
  • Build simple reporting for executives and the floor team
  • Production operations
  • Create shot lists, call sheets, permissions, and release forms
  • Maintain brand voice, style guides, and asset libraries
  • Set up file naming, backups, and handoffs to design and web
  • Manage creator contracts, scopes, and deadlines
  • Collaborations
  • Partner with Events on run-of-show capture plans
  • Partner with Membership on lead magnets and drip emails
  • Partner with Partnerships on sponsor deliverables and recaps
  • KPIs you will own
  • Instagram and TikTok: consistent weekly cadence, steady growth in reach and engagement, improving short-video retention over time
  • Newsletter: send cadence, open rate, click rate, list growth, unsubscribe rate
  • LinkedIn: impressions, engagement rate, follower growth, inbound partnership leads
  • Web and pipeline: traffic from content, time on page, scroll depth to inquiry CTAs, new member leads and event inquiries attributed to content

Your experience

  • 5+ years creating and leading digital content across photo, video, and copy
  • Portfolio with social video, editorial writing, and brand storytelling
  • Record of growth and conversions for a hospitality, lifestyle, or membership brand
  • Strong copywriting with clean grammar and sharp CTAs
  • Comfortable directing talent and small crews on fast turnarounds
  • Email writing and light CRM skills for campaigns and automations
  • Basic SEO for blog and landing pages

Tools you use

  • Editing: Premiere Pro or Final Cut. After Effects a plus. CapCut for mobile
  • Photo: Lightroom and Photoshop
  • Planning and publishing: Notion or Asana, Google Drive, Meta Business Suite, TikTok tools, LinkedIn, Later or Buffer
  • Analytics: GA4, native platform insights, UTM tracking, Looker Studio
  • Email and publishing: Substack, Mailchimp or similar, basic HTML formatting

  • Two writing samples: one short caption set and one 400 to 800 word editorial sample
  • Three quick concepts for a Maxwell content series with title, premise, format, and weekly cadence

Compensation and benefits

  • Base salary: 70,000 to 90,000 USD, plus performance bonus
