Director of Regional Engagement & Advocacy
Career Opportunity - Director of Regional Advocacy and Engagement with Kentucky Nonprofit Network (KNN) supporting Northern Kentucky
Candidate must reside in Northern Kentucky
Are you a dynamic nonprofit leader passionate about driving positive change through charitable nonprofit collaboration and advocacy engagement? If so, KNN would like to speak with you about our opportunity!
As a Director of Regional Engagement and Advocacy with KNN, you will be at the forefront of building and nurturing diverse and powerful advocacy coalitions that amplify the collective voice of the charitable nonprofit sector. Your leadership will be instrumental in driving policy changes and partnerships that benefit nonprofits, and the individuals and communities’ nonprofits serve. You will drive the recruitment of KNN memberships and support and facilitate the creation of a unified advocacy voice and collaborative coalition to ensure a seat at the decision-making tables that impact the work of charitable nonprofits.
KNN is a small and highly impactful organization that is making a difference for the success of nonprofits in Kentucky. We are expanding our team to enhance our ability to engage, partner, and collaborate with new and existing members in Northern Kentucky.
The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders. You will need strong knowledge of nonprofit advocacy and legislative processes – particularly in local government, experience setting legislative priorities, and building consensus. You will also need an understanding of the nonprofit sector, particularly experience as a nonprofit executive or c-suite leader. Exceptional facilitation and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively articulate complex issues to diverse audiences is essential.
Specifically, this position will help launch and facilitate KNN's Northern Kentucky Nonprofit Coalition, a new local alliance of KNN members, and work to support public policy advocacy and collaboration/coalition-building among nonprofits in the target communities. The successful candidate will:
- Be a current or previous nonprofit executive with a deep understanding of nonprofit sector challenges, including time and resource constraints to engage in advocacy and the complex issues facing nonprofits in providing services. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of paid director-level experience.
- Possess a demonstrated understanding of public policy advocacy and the legislative process, particularly at the local level. The preferred candidate will have a proven track record of successful coalition-building, advocacy, and/or community organizing experience.
- Possess the decision-making skills and professional judgement required to maintain nonpartisan relationships with elected and appointed public officials.
- Share KNN‘s commitment to equitable access, inclusion of voices - especially those closest to the needs, and the benefits of diversity in our organizations, boards, volunteers, stakeholders, and participants.
- Successfully articulate the benefits of state association and local coalition membership and engagement to nonprofit colleagues - sell membership AND the vision of a united nonprofit sector in communities and statewide.
- Have demonstrated experience in building and supporting nonprofit coalitions with the energy required to inspire, and coach nonprofit leaders to engage in advocacy and coalition participation on behalf of their organization and those they serve.
- Juggle multiple priorities with ease, discern large amounts of information to identify action steps, and think strategically on the fly to take advantage of “crisistunities” and engagement opportunities. This position requires a flexible leader who can adapt with shifting priorities while maintaining focus on overall goals.
- Facilitate Coalition meetings and relevant events, balancing KNN’s leadership role and member empowerment. Also manage/facilitate discussion on actual and perceived conflicts of interest among members, partners, etc.
- Serve as a Coalition ambassador and point of contact with other local and regional organizations – synthesizing and communicating information, as needed.
- Develop and support training and resources that support Coalitions and build capacity of nonprofits generally – advocacy trainings, impact reports, etc.
- Collaborate with KNN staff on event logistics and marketing.
- Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive team environment – supporting other team members as needed.
- Engage in social media to lift the work of the Coalition and its members.
- Be located in Northern Kentucky and travel regionally for occasional meetings and events as needed.
