Powertrain Engineer
Job Summary:
Morbark’s Powertrain Engineer works as part of the Product Engineering team. The Engine Specialist’s primary role is selecting, modeling, and purchasing engines and/or engine components to meet Engineering requirements for Morbark’s product lines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Select engines for product use
- Coordinate with Engineer for performance requirements
- Coordinate with Purchasing Department for timing/availability
- Coordinate with Sales Department for customer preference
- Determine or design engine subcomponent and packaging requirements
- Design or select cooling and exhaust subsystems
- Design enclosures
- Coordinate with clutch suppliers for attachments
- Work with CAD team to ensure proper model and BOM generation
- Validate engines and engine packages
- Determine validation needs
- Establish test plans
- Run, direct, or coordinate actual product testing
- Work with Engineering and Quality teams to drive down warranty occurrences and expense
- Identify training opportunities and help develop training needed to improve the overall organization’s development
- Create reports for management outlining current project status or current issues
- Keep a working log of open issues, design issues, and timelines for resolutions
- Contribute to problem resolutions and participate in problem solving activities when needed
- Travel time up to 10% may be required for this position
Essential Qualifications:
- Prior experience in engine and/or engine subcomponent design, selection, and testing
- Experience working with Engineering and Manufacturing departments
- Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
- Ability to work with a diverse group of employees and customers
- Ability to effectively understand and communicate with individuals at multiple levels of the organization
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering field
- Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings
- Project management experience in interfacing with multiple/concurrent projects
- Working knowledge of Microsoft product suite
- Solid Edge experience preferred
- Must be qualified to work in the United States
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to productively use MS Office software
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
