About the UC San Diego Real Estate Department
The UC San Diego Real Estate Department manages the University’s real property portfolio, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, asset management, and development. Our work supports the University’s academic, clinical, and research missions through strategic real estate transactions and projects. The Real Estate Department is comprised of four (4) divisions: Public-Private Partnerships, Asset Management, Leasing, and Finance/Accounting.
Public-Private Partnerships (P3)
The P3 team develops real estate projects for UC San Diego. These projects include hotels, health facilities, academic buildings, multifamily housing, life science facilities, and office buildings. In a P3 structure, a private developer finances, designs, constructs, owns, manages, and operates the project and site amenities under a long-term ground lease with the Regents of the University of California. These projects are located on UC San Diego or UC property, and they play a critical role in advancing the University’s growth and mission. Through these efforts, the P3 team delivers transformative projects that expand UC San Diego’s capabilities while fostering long-term partnerships that benefit the campus and surrounding community.
Asset Management
The Asset Management group oversees properties that UC San Diego owns and operates. The team manages on-campus and off-campus retail and office leasing, tenant relations, and capital and tenant improvements. Responsibilities include lease administration, annual budgets, financial reporting, rent and fee billing, compliance, and long-term planning.
Leasing (Real Property Leasing)
The Real Property Leasing (RPL) team manages all off-campus leases for office, medical office, classroom, lab, flex, and other commercial spaces where UC San Diego is tenant, as well as leases of UCSD-owned investment assets to internal and external tenants. The team manages approximately 1.4 million square feet across San Diego County and oversees the full lease cycle - from site search and RFPs through negotiations, tenant improvements, and lease administration.
