Librarian (Leave Replacement)
The Brearley School, an independent girls’ school serving over 770 students K-12, welcomes candidates for a leave replacement position as a Librarian beginning on November 10, 2025.

Responsibilities include:
- planning and instructing library and research classes in the Lower, Middle, and Upper School
- collaborating with faculty and staff on a variety of curricular projects
- helping maintain, develop, and promote a highly circulated print collection
- providing reference and information services to students, faculty, staff and parents
- creating a welcoming atmosphere in the library for all constituencies and providing support to academic and nonacademic programs throughout the school
The ideal candidate will:
- have a bachelor’s degree in the humanities; an advanced degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) is preferred
- have experience in school or public libraries and teaching in Middle or Upper School
- have a commitment to the education of girls
- understand the needs of students at various stages of intellectual and personal development
- demonstrate curiosity, creativity and collaboration
- possess excellent oral and written communication skills
- be collegial and enjoy working collaboratively
- demonstrate cultural competency and a deep investment in inclusive teaching practices

About the Library at Brearley
The Library Department is a small, close-knit, intellectually curious, and spirited team of educators who work collaboratively across all three divisions of the school. We are based in two library spaces: one dedicated to our youngest students, where we cultivate an early appreciation for reading and exploration, and the other serving our Middle and Upper School students as a vibrant hub for study, reflection, inquiry, reading, and collaboration. Salary
In 2025-2026, the monthly salary for this position ranges from $6,041 to $11,041 depending on years of full-time teaching experience.
