Position Summary:
A Washington, DC area non-profit is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Public Affairs Liaison to support our public affairs and strategic engagement initiatives. This junior-level position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with Senior Leadership and the CEO, helping to amplify our organizational voice and expand our influence through partnerships, events, and external communications.
Key Responsibilities:

Event & Speaking Opportunity Support:
Assist in identifying high-impact events and speaking engagements for Senior Leadership and the CEO that align with organizational goals and visibility priorities. -
Speech & Message Development:
Work with policy associates to help draft and edit speeches, statements, talking points, and other communications tailored for key audiences and stakeholders. -
Briefing Material Coordination:
Help prepare and refine briefing materials for Senior Leadership, ensuring content is accurate, strategic, and aligned with our messaging. -
Public Policy Support:
Provide assistance on public policy initiatives, including research, meeting preparation, note-taking, and tracking legislative or regulatory developments relevant to the organization’s mission. -
Event Attendance in Washington, D.C.:
Represent the organization at relevant meetings, hearings, forums, and public affairs events in Washington, D.C., and report back key takeaways to the team. -
Stakeholder Engagement:
Support efforts to build and maintain partnerships with sponsors, external stakeholders, and community leaders to advance policy and programmatic initiatives. -
Outreach & Relationship Management:
Contribute to outreach efforts targeting partner organizations and communities, assisting in the development of relationships that support organizational objectives. -
Event Planning & Logistics:
Assist with planning and executing events, including internal meetings and co-hosted events with partner organizations—supporting agenda development, scheduling, and thematic coordination. -
Special Projects Coordination:
Support external and cross-functional projects that align with broader strategic goals, helping manage logistics and stakeholder communications.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs, Communications, Political Science, or a related field preferred
- 1–2 years of experience in public affairs, policy, nonprofit, or related fields
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
- Passion for mission-driven work and community engagement
