Dermatology Medical Assistant Intern

The general Medical Assistant description is below. Some duties are not applicable for Dermatology such as blood draws, and EKGs. Additional duties that are specific to Derm include serving as a scribe during patient visits, setting up for a small procedures, maintaining a pathology log and communicating results to patients.

This position is open to college graduates who plan to enroll in medical or PA school. Accreditation is not required. That is why the job is titled MA Intern rather that Certified Medical Assistant. The accepted candidate will be paired with an experienced medical assistant. You and your teammate will assist my job share partner, Dr. Uma O’Brien, and myself. This is a full-time, Monday through Friday position with pay and benefits. We ask that candidates be able to commit to a 1 to 2 year time period. 

We plan to in person interviews at our office, but virtual interviews may be an option. Once offered an interview, candidates will need to apply through our human resources department. A background check and drug screen are required. We are unable to offer our position to F-1 CBT/OPT candidates.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT INTERN

Job Title: Medical Assistant Intern Reports To: Practice Manager Supervises: N/A

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

General Job Summary: The Medical Assistant Intern will support the department as assigned, while gaining experience and educational opportunities.

Duties to include:

• Escort patients to exam rooms/procedure room, interviews patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, collect patient history; perform screenings per provider guidelines, other physical examination preparations and document all information in patient’s chart

• Assist patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens

• Assembles patients’ health information including patient symptoms and medical history, exam results, X-ray reports, lab tests, diagnoses, and treatment plans.

• Ensures all related reports, labs and information is available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment.

• Reviews to ensure all forms are completed, properly identified, and signed and that all necessary information in the EHR.

• Communicates as needed with physicians and other health care professionals to clarify diagnoses or obtain additional information.

• Obtains and sends patient medical records to support seamless care delivery

Education, Experience and Certifications

 coordination, and more.

  • Must be enrolled in or have a degree from an accredited university / college undergraduate or

 graduate program

• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills

• Good written and verbal communication skills

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

• Self-directed and able to work without supervision

 Physical Requirements.

 • Work consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.

• Must be able to lift and support weight of 35 pounds

• Ability to concentrate on details.

• Use of computer for long periods of time.
