Graduate Development Program – West Coast

Messer Americas is looking to grow our technical engineering capabilities in the West Coast (CA, OR, WA) and seeking talented individuals to join our team. We’re looking for candidates pursuing degrees in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, with expected graduation dates between December 2025 and June 2026. Ideal candidates must be open to relocation (Assistance provided).

Messer's Graduate Development Program:

Messer Americas’ Graduate Development Program (GDP) immerses graduates, like you, into the broad world of industrial gases. This two-year program allows graduates to choose between one of five tracks (Operations, Commercial, Information Technology, Finance & Accounting, and Supply Chain Management). In each track you will learn about Messer’s business, develop your technical and business capabilities, and excel as a professional. Each 8-month rotation allows you to explore a new area of business as you relocate to different locations across America.

 

Customer-Facing Engineering / Commercial Track

Popular rotations may include:

  • Application Sales: Our Application Sales Engineers design, engineer and install solutions to meet a variety of customer needs. The Application Sales team has Program Managers and Applications Sales Engineers who are responsible for selling value added technology-based gas applications in collaboration with the Account Managers.

 

  • Application Development: Responsible for the research, development, and commercialization of Product Service Offerings related to gases manufactured and sold by Messer Americas. The function is divided into three Market Segments: Food and Beverage; Chemicals, Environmental, and Energy; and Metals, Glass, and Industrial Markets.

 

  • Markets Project Execution: This team is responsible for delivering customer-focused solutions safely, on time, and within budget. From solution development through investment approval, design, construction, commissioning, and handover, our team members are focused on execution excellence that delivers value for our customers and our company.

 

  • Account Management: The five region Bulk sales teams’ mission is to drive profitable growth and revenue in each territory. Using the Messer Pro Sales Process, Account Managers (AMs) focus on bulk customers and related value-add equipment and services. AMs are required to have a deep understanding of the Messer Product and Service Offerings, industry trends, and specific territory dynamics, including the competitive landscape, with a strong passion to win.

 

Operations Track

Popular rotations may include:

  • Project Execution: This team manages large-scale capital projects from solution development through investment approval, design, construction, commissioning, and handover. Experienced in plant design, plant engineering, piping, pipeline, vessels, and construction management.

 

  • Production: Messer has an extensive fleet of industrial gas plants producing atmospheric gases, carbon dioxide and hydrogen. The field operations team is responsible for site safety and security, plant maintenance and contractor management, plant operation, environmental and quality compliance and pipeline customer relationship management.

 

  • Reliability: Messer designs, builds, operates, and maintains its plants to supply the needs customers in a safe, dependable, compliant, and cost-effective manner.

 

  • Supply Chain: This team manages Messer’s supply chain and network including demand planning, supply management, customer assignment, power supply, competitor sales / purchases, rail logistics, plant outages, and much more.

 

  • Remote Operations Center (ROC): The ROC is responsible for the safe, efficient and dependable operation of the majority of Messer‘s ASU plant fleet within both North and South America.

 

  • Process Engineering: Responsible for the engineering safety and continuous improvement in efficiency of our air separation and CO2 plants.

Qualifications:

Education

Required

Bachelors or better in Chemical Engineering or related field.

Bachelors or better in Electrical Engineering or related field.

Bachelors or better in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Bachelors or better in Industrial, General, or Applied Engineering or related field.

Bachelors or better in Integrated Business & Engineering or related field.

 

The salary for this position is $80,000. Messer provides medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, life insurance, and paid time off, as well as other voluntary benefits such as long-term disability, in accordance with the terms and conditions of these plans. Employees are eligible to enroll in Messer’s 401(k) Plan and may also be eligible to participate in the company’s bonus program.
