Medical Administrative Assistant Intern

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Medical Administrative Assistant Intern to join our psychiatric practice. The intern will support daily administrative operations, assist with patient communications, and help maintain an efficient, patient-centered environment. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in healthcare administration and mental health services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist patients in person, by phone, and via electronic communication.
  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments, manage calendars, and coordinate with clinical staff.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist with insurance verification, billing, and processing of patient forms.
  • Prepare and organize medical documents, correspondence, and reports.
  • Support the intake and discharge process for patients.
  • Perform general office duties, including filing, scanning, faxing, and data entry.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with special projects and administrative tasks as assigned by the supervising psychiatrist.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a healthcare administration, medical office, or related program preferred.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace, and comfortable with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Professional demeanor and commitment to patient confidentiality.
  • Interest in psychiatry or mental health is a plus.
